3D visualization is one of the hottest new trends in online marketing and sales. Even before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, retailers were seeing a boom in the use of augmented reality. Today, that trend has hit a new peak, with more and more consumers preferring to shop from the comfort of their own homes.

Keep reading for a rundown of some of the most exciting ways that 3D visualization can be used across different industries. This post will also explain some of the reasons that augmented reality and 3D visualization boost sales for retailers in virtually every field.

What is 3D visualization?

To put it simply, 3D visualization, or augmented reality, is a way to bring the in-store experience right into consumers’ homes. This can mean a lot of different things. Some augmented reality (AR) applications allow consumers to “try on” clothing or jewelry, from the comfort of their own homes.

Other applications make it easy for consumers to look at products from every possible angle, or to immediately visualize how the item would look in a room in their home. Augmented reality (like Intiaro’s AR applications) allows consumers to take a 360 degree look at the furniture they’re thinking of buying, and to see how that furniture would look in their home, next to their own home décor.

How can augmented reality boost sales?

Anecdotally, it’s clear that consumers love augmented reality. In an era when most people do their shopping from home, it’s more important than ever to provide customers with as much information as possible. Consumers are also more educated and discerning than ever. This means that they want to know everything possible about the product they’re considering before they go ahead and buy it.

But we don’t have to rely on anecdotes. The fact is, the data shows clearly that using 3D visualization has a big impact on sales.

According to a 2019 Nielsen survey, most customers (two thirds of those surveyed) said they were too busy for the old fashioned shopping experience; they welcomed any kind of technology that could improve their day to day lives. People in that same survey said that they were very interested in augmented reality. In fact, just over 50 percent of those who took the survey said that they would like to use augmented reality to consider products before finalizing a purchase. Those surveyed hadn’t even tried AR – so the survey proves that people are fascinated by the mere possibility of this new technology!

What about after they try 3D visualization?

The online retailing pro Shopify has revealed that augmented reality goes a long way to make conversations and close sales.

In fact, Shopify says that when customers interact with 3D visualization and AR, the conversion rate is 94 percent higher than when they don’t use the new technology.

This figure is staggering. However, when you consider the immersive nature of AR, it becomes more understandable. Instead of just looking at a flat image of a product, consumers can investigate it, interact with it, and view it from every possible angle. The experience is just as immersive as being in a store.

It’s no wonder that the 3D rendering market has been growing by leaps and bounds. In 2018, the 3D rendering market was valued at $1.5 billion. That figure is expected to skyrocket to more than $6 billion by the year 2025, according to a report produced by Global Market Insight.

3D visualization and AR are no longer just “extras” or “nice to have” attributes. They have turned into necessities which every business needs in order to take their retail shop forward.
